CDA: Ms. Vogelaar

Hello Herons Crossing Families! I am the Child Development Advisor (CDA) at Herons Crossing School. I have a vast background in mental health and have worked with RVSD in a mental health capacity since 2014. Prior to becoming a CDA, I was a Success Coach with Stepping Stones to Mental Health. Throughout my career, I have had a number of mental health related volunteer positions including: working as a research assistant and a mentor at Mount Royal University, and working as a mental health programming assist at the Rockyview General Hospital. I am also an instructor for Mental Health First Aid: Adults who Interact with Youth and Psychological First Aid. I am currently completing my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology and am incredibly excited and grateful for this new adventure here at Herons Crossing School. I believe that one’s mental health is interconnected with their physical and social health, and therefore building a support team is vital to effectively supporting students. The CDA role is focused on supporting students and families with their social, emotional, and mental health needs in order to help the student be successful. This support may be through individual work, group work, classroom presentations, and the delivery of professional learning. I believe in working collaboratively with parents, teachers, students, and outside agencies to further provide this support. During my down time I enjoy going to the gym, playing softball, and spending time with my friends and family.
