Learning Design Coach

I am thrilled to be Herons Crossing first Learning Design Coach this year and I'm looking forward to spending time with all of our amazing students at Herons Crossing! This will be my seventh year teaching at Herons Crossing; I started at HCS just a few months after graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in June 2012!

Kendra3 I believe that learning should be empowering and engaging for all learners. Innovation, creativity and critical thinking occur naturally when students are put in the metaphorical “drivers seat.” As a school, we will work collaboratively to create positive learning environments, full of questioning, discovering, reflecting and goal setting. This year, I have the opportunity to work with teachers and grade teams to foster innovative teaching, integrate technology, and make community partnerships. Please check out my Twitter @kendraljewer and our Herons Crossing School Twitter @heronscrossing to keep up to date with what's going on the in the world of a Learning Design Coach!

In my first year of teaching, I was incredibly honoured to be the 2013 Edwin Parr Award for Excellence in Teaching winner for Rocky View Schools. Even though it sounds (extremely!) cheesy, I truly wouldn’t have accomplished ANYTHING without the amazing students and staff at Herons Crossing School!

I have lived in Airdrie since 2013 and enjoy spending time with my friends and family in Airdrie, Calgary, and Newfoundland. You may notice a name change in October; after my wedding on Thanksgiving weekend, I will officially be called Mrs. Arnason (or Mrs. A for short!) I am an avid baseball and football fan; you can find me cheering for the Yankees and the Patriots during the season! I enjoy spending lots of time at our cabin in the Shuswap and I also play fast pitch and slo-pitch in Calgary. I am both a crazy fur mom and a self-proclaimed super nerd with a passion for history! I spend lots of my free time reading (biographies and historical fiction are my favourite!) and day dreaming about seeing more of the world and exploring all of the places that I studied in University as I completed my first degree, a Bachelor of Arts in History!

Here’s to another amazing school year where we take risks, push boundaries and celebrate excellence!
