Gr. 5- Jewer

I am thrilled to be teaching grade 4 this year and I'm looking forward to spending time with all of our amazing grade 4 students at Herons Crossing! This will be my fifth year teaching at Herons Crossing; I started at HCS just a few months after graduating from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education in June 2012!

Kendra3 I believe that learning should be empowering and engaging for all learners. Innovation, creativity and critical thinking occur naturally when students are put in the metaphorical “drivers seat.” As a class, we will work together to create a positive learning environment, full of questioning, discovering, reflecting and goal setting. This year, students in 4 J will be working with students from Mrs. Neid, Miss Ryckman and Mr. Masson's classes; after all, collaboration is the key to success in today’s world! I also believe that open communication between home and school is a requisite for success. Knowing that both teachers and parents are on their side makes a huge difference in a student’s learning journey. Please check out our class blog to keep up to date with important information and to see some of the learning happening in our classroom:

In my first year of teaching, I was incredibly honoured to be the 2013 Edwin Parr Award for Excellence in Teaching winner for Rocky View Schools. Even though it sounds (extremely!) cheesy, I truly wouldn’t have accomplished ANYTHING without the amazing students and staff at Herons Crossing School!

I have lived in Airdrie since 2013 and enjoy spending time with my friends and family in Airdrie, Calgary, and Newfoundland. I am an avid baseball and football fan; you can find me cheering for the Yankees and the Patriots during the season! I enjoy spending lots of time at our cabin in the Shuswap and I also play fast pitch and slo-pitch in Calgary and Airdrie. I am a self-proclaimed super nerd and have a passion for history! I spend lots of my free time reading (biographies and historical fiction are my favourite!) and day dreaming about seeing more of the world and exploring all of the places that I studied in University as I completed my first degree, a Bachelor of Arts in History!

Here’s to another amazing school year where we take risks, push boundaries and celebrate excellence!
