Gr. 1- Kindermann

Hello Herons Crossing School Families!  My name is Kerry Kindermann and this year I will be part of the Grade One team at Herons Crossing School.  I am thrilled to be back in the classroom again after some time away to work as a Teacher-Librarian and as a Literacy Support and Fine Arts Teacher.  Most of your children already know me, as I taught Fine Arts to the Kindergarten students at Herons Crossing last year.

I have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta with a minor in Elementary Education.  I have been teaching since September of 2000, mostly in Fort St. John, BC, which is located in Northeastern BC (think oil and gas), about 2.5 hours from Grande Prairie.  For much of my teaching career, I have taught Grade One in some form (sometimes Kindergarten/Grade One and sometimes Grade One/Two).  I was fortunate to train as a Reading Recovery Teacher, which is a program designed to assist struggling Grade One readers.  I was a Reading Recovery Teacher for 5 years.  During that time, I was also working towards a 5th year of courses with a Literacy focus.  I love to read and I love to share my love of reading with my students.

I hope that over the course of the year, the students and I will be able to learn and grow together and create a classroom that is an enjoyable place to be.  Grade One is a year where students accomplish so much!  They learn to read and write, calculate with numbers up to 20, and learn more about the world around them.  I am looking forward to the adventure!
